Item 1: Masks are dangerous AND ineffective against SARS-CoV-2 (aka COVID-19)

Item 2: Physicians, in spite of scientific studies disproving mask effectiveness against viruses, promoted mask wearing, causing both fear and weakened immune systems amongst the general public of many nations beginning in year 2020.

Item 3: Texas governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order yesterday prohibiting "governmental entities and officials from mandating face coverings or restricting activities in response to the COVID-19 disaster"

Item 4: Effective the same day: Texas cities Sugar Land and Missouri City and Texas school district Fort Bend Independent School District issue statements complying, at least in part, with the governor's executive order.

"A cluster randomised trial of cloth masks compared with medical masks in healthcare workers

Objective The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of cloth masks to medical masks in hospital healthcare workers (HCWs). The null hypothesis is that there is no difference between medical masks and cloth masks.

Main outcome measure Clinical respiratory illness (CRI), influenza-like illness (ILI) and laboratory-confirmed respiratory virus infection.

Results The rates of all infection outcomes were highest in the cloth mask arm, with the rate of ILI statistically significantly higher in the cloth mask arm (relative risk (RR)=13.00, 95% CI 1.69 to 100.07) compared with the medical mask arm. Cloth masks also had significantly higher rates of ILI compared with the control arm. An analysis by mask use showed ILI (RR=6.64, 95% CI 1.45 to 28.65) and laboratory-confirmed virus (RR=1.72, 95% CI 1.01 to 2.94) were significantly higher in the cloth masks group compared with the medical masks group. Penetration of cloth masks by particles was almost 97% and medical masks 44%.

Conclusions This study is the first [randomized controlled trial] of cloth masks, and the results caution against the use of cloth masks. This is an important finding to inform occupational health and safety. Moisture retention, reuse of cloth masks and poor filtration may result in increased risk of infection. Further research is needed to inform the widespread use of cloth masks globally. However, as a precautionary measure, cloth masks should not be recommended for [healthcare workers], particularly in high-risk situations, and guidelines need to be updated."

N95 masks are designed to create a tight seal around the nose and mouth and filter smoke particles from the air. (WILL MCDONALD / Yakima Herald-Republic)

Article snippet: “The state Department of Health recommends not putting N95 masks on children because they won’t fit properly over their mouths, causing needless breathing difficulties without providing protection. Similarly, Bernard said, people with beards won’t benefit from the masks since the masks won’t properly seal.

Even with a proper fit, N95 masks can create additional respiratory issues if worn for too long. If you’re having trouble breathing after wearing a mask for an extended period of time, Tull said, it’s best to head indoors.” ~ Alec Regimbal

On this date 193 years ago...

Ended a debate between Senators Daniel Webster of Massachusetts and Robert Hayne of South Carolina.

Daniel Webster won the day, but with hindsight, modern citizens may side with Hayne.

Hayne re-enforced the idea of a confederation while Webster defended the idea of a federation.

In a confederacy the people may overcome tyrants quicker than in a federation, for in THAT condition, do the words of the Unites States constitution have TEETH. #AntiFederalistPaper9 http://resources.utulsa.edu/law/classes/rice/Constitutional/AntiFederalist/09.htm "We [the Aristocratic party of the United States,] do not much like that sturdy privilege of the people -- the right to demand the writ of habeas corpus. We have therefore reserved the power of refusing it in cases of rebellion, and you know we are the judges of what is rebellion...."
