Let us continue with Federalist Paper #1 written by Alexander Hamilton under the pen name Publius.

This week we are reading the 3rd paragraph.

Please reply with your thoughts, disagreements, questions, and comments. We will have one week to deliberate before moving to the 4th paragraph.

As we are now well aware, the writing is antiquated, so we will continue with only one paragraph, which in this case is a single sentence. This section is also more wordy than most sentences and paragraphs within modern news articles (these newspaper essays were published between 1787 and 1788). I will insert a blank line between each comma and semi-colon to ease readability.

"Among the most formidable of the obstacles which the new Constitution will have to encounter may readily be distinguished the obvious interest of a certain class of men in every State to resist all changes which may hazard a diminution of the power,

emolument,

and consequence of the offices they hold under the State establishments;

and the perverted ambition of another class of men,

who will either hope to aggrandize themselves by the confusions of their country,
