Full Pink Moon arrives TONIGHT! See it in ONE hour!

'April 26: The full moon of April, known as the Full Pink Moon, arrives at 11:32 p.m. EDT (0332 April 27 GMT). Because the moon will also be near perigee, or its closest point to Earth, this will also be a so-called "supermoon."' ~ Hanneke Weitering, n2yo.com/satellite-article/Space-calendar-2021-Rocket-launches-sky-events-missions--more-/78

More Details, Please

"The next full Moon will be late Monday night, April 26, 2021, appearing opposite the Sun in Earth-based longitude at 11:32 p.m. EDT. This will be the next day from the Atlantic Daylight Savings timezone eastward across Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia to the International Date Line. Most commercial calendars are based on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) or Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) and will show this full Moon occurring on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. The Moon will appear full for about three days around this time, from Sunday night through Wednesday morning." ~ Gordon Johnston, nasa.gov/news/1818/the-next-full-moon-is-a-supermoon-pink-moon

Why is this moon called a Pink Moon? IS it pink?

"In the 1930s the Maine Farmer's Almanac began publishing American Indian Moon names for the months of the year. According to this almanac, as the full Moon in April, this is the Pink Moon, named after the herb moss pink, also known as creeping phlox, moss phlox, or mountain phlox. The plant is native to the eastern United States and is one of the earliest widespread flowers of spring." ~ Gordon Johnston, nasa.gov/news/1818/the-next-full-moon-is-a-supermoon-pink-moon

What is a Supermoon?

"A supermoon happens when the full moon coincides with the moon's closest approach to Earth in its orbit. Supermoons make the moon appear a little brighter and closer than normal, although the difference is hard to spot with the naked eye." ~ Elizabeth Howell, space.com/38940-supermoon-facts.html

On this date 193 years ago...

Ended a debate between Senators Daniel Webster of Massachusetts and Robert Hayne of South Carolina.

Daniel Webster won the day, but with hindsight, modern citizens may side with Hayne.

Hayne re-enforced the idea of a confederation while Webster defended the idea of a federation.

In a confederacy the people may overcome tyrants quicker than in a federation, for in THAT condition, do the words of the Unites States constitution have TEETH. #AntiFederalistPaper9 http://resources.utulsa.edu/law/classes/rice/Constitutional/AntiFederalist/09.htm "We [the Aristocratic party of the United States,] do not much like that sturdy privilege of the people -- the right to demand the writ of habeas corpus. We have therefore reserved the power of refusing it in cases of rebellion, and you know we are the judges of what is rebellion...."
