The Socrates of the CCP

Regarding modern Chinese embassies, I've heard of two things: Confucius schools of thought and the CCP. This has confused me because Confucianism, to my understanding, seems in direct conflict with totalitarianism.

Yesterday I learned about Shang Jun Shu, aka Shang Martingale (390 BCE - 338 BCE). This merciless statesman served under Duke Xiao of Qin during the Warring States Period (475 BC - 221 BC). https://www.sutori.com/en/story/post-classical-china--hbr9zvoE1tdrMd1N6GrXrBQo

Apparently, his text "The Book of Lord Shang" https://www.jstor.org/stable/10.7312/... is foundational material for the modern day CCP.

He called for weak people. https://ctext.org/shang-jun-shu/w...

"A weak people means a strong state and a strong state means a weak people. Therefore, a country, which has the right way, is concerned with weakening the people."

An apparent reason the CCP and its acolytes are against anyone who values liberty.

The CCP's foundational documents are not like the Magna Carta (which eventually leads to the concept of inalienable rights).

Quite the opposite. Members and followers of the CCP, it seems, believe in the value of "Weakening the People."

WOW

On this date 193 years ago...

Ended a debate between Senators Daniel Webster of Massachusetts and Robert Hayne of South Carolina.

Daniel Webster won the day, but with hindsight, modern citizens may side with Hayne.

Hayne re-enforced the idea of a confederation while Webster defended the idea of a federation.

In a confederacy the people may overcome tyrants quicker than in a federation, for in THAT condition, do the words of the Unites States constitution have TEETH. #AntiFederalistPaper9 http://resources.utulsa.edu/law/classes/rice/Constitutional/AntiFederalist/09.htm "We [the Aristocratic party of the United States,] do not much like that sturdy privilege of the people -- the right to demand the writ of habeas corpus. We have therefore reserved the power of refusing it in cases of rebellion, and you know we are the judges of what is rebellion...."
